Our mission at Go Hiking P.R. is to provide high-quality services and to facilitate adventures in a responsible and educational way, not forgetting about safety, the environment, and enjoyment.
Currently, we do not offer transportation or lunch after the tour. You should be able to arrive to the destination on your own. Driving time from San Juan to Barranquitas can take an hour and a half with low traffic. There are many Airbnb options in our town with different price range if you would like to know our town in more depth. In regard to food, there are several restaurants with our authentic food ("comida criolla"), bakeries, and a few fast foods.
Yes. All outdoor experiences and activities involve a risk. In our case, the San Cristobal Canyon is a strenuous trail on uneven, slippery, and rocky terrain. Some parts of the Canyon are short, steep and intense hills. Be prepare to scramble through rocks, bushwalk, and use your arms to pull up some rocks.
The most important thing to take to the excursion is your willingness to follow instructions and have fun. You will also need extra clothes for after the tour, since everything will get wet. Towels and clothes should stay in the car to avoid adding weight to your backpack; you won't need them during the tour. You should dress appropriately, with comfortable clothes that allow you to move around and stretch. It is better to wear long pants (NOT JEANS) because we'll walk through bushes. You might wear hiking pants or exercise leggings; anything quick drying and lightweight but that will also protect your legs. Hiking boots or shoes/trail runners are preferred. Also, sneakers or other closed shoes with good grip for slippery conditions. You will need a small or medium backpack (no bigger than 30 liters) with several snacks, medication, and lots of water. Everything must be inside one or two Ziploc bags to avoid getting your stuff wet. Remember, everything will get wet, so protect your belongings. For more tips about clothe and what to bring, visit the Blog section on this page.
Puerto Rico has a tropical climate, making it easy to have adventures and fun all year round. However, it is important to consider that it can rain any day at any time and that our hurricane season is June through November, and we are susceptible to rain and flash floods. Needless to say, under those conditions, tours are not recommended, and we reserve the right to cancel an expedition. If you paid a deposit or the full price to reserve a tour, we'll reimburse what you paid for the tour if we have to cancel due to weather conditions. On the other hand, on average, the driest months in Barranquitas are February through April and September is the wettest month of the year.
Due to our full-time jobs, we schedule our tours Saturdays, some Sundays, and Holidays (weather permitting). Please check Puerto Rico's calendar for more information about our Holidays since we observe federal and national Holidays. During the summer months (June and July) we operate every day. All tours begin at 7:00 a.m. and you have to get to our town (Barranquitas).
The best way to reserve your adventure is by phone (787-647-3402). You can also email or text us for more information and to separate your space. We require a minimum of 3 people to open a tour, so it is important to contact us before your plans to make sure we'll be offering a tour on your desired date.
You can reserve your excursion with a minimum of three people. Please remember that prices vary depending on group size. You can also join a group. We often open different dates for tours with different prices, and you can join any available dates. If you join one of those dates, you will pay that day's price, which is often a special price for being a group of more than 10 people. Groups have a maximum of 15 people.
All our adventures require that people are in relatively adequate physical condition. We expect you to be able to handle long walks, be able to scramble, and have good cardiovascular health. This is an Indiana Jones type of adventure, so you should be able to handle a difficult terrain and a strenuous hike.
People with cardiovascular problems, with heart bypass surgery, diabetes, or are pregnant, should inform so before the tour. We've had the pleasure to take people with different kinds of physical conditions who wanted to challenge and push themselves into enjoying nature and where able to complete the tour. However, all conditions were previously discussed with their doctors, families, and guides to make a decision. If you have diabetes or other related conditions, please talk to your doctor before scheduling an expedition and take all medications, food, and snacks before, during or after the tour. You will also need to sign an assumption of Risk and Voluntary Participation Agreement for Waiver and Liability.
